Sunday Snapshots #2

Sunday Snapshots #2

Signs of spring

The buds on the lilacs and trees are starting to get plump. On the way to town today the poplars were noticibly thicker. The willows are starting to turn colors too and the last of the geese are flying over head. Spring is not far off and I couldn't be more ready for it to appear. I have been holding off starting seeds indoors because....well just because. Here soon though I will have to make the choice and get them planted. We will see what happens in the future.
Notice the green grass in the corner, yeah its coming back in patches in the garden. I am excited to see it and definately impatient (shocker there huh!?). Some day I may learn to relax a bit but I'm not holding my breath!

This year has been crazy with the mice. I dont know if it is because winter has been so mild or last year so wet but there have been mice EVERYWHERE. These huge holes are at the bottom of our compost bin. This is just a few. When we moved the bin to mix up the pile and ready it for the garden HUGE mice went running everywhere. The kids were squealing and chasing them. It was very entertaining. This spring we have to get the house sealed up better. The mice have come in so much more this year. We have killed....well I wont say how many because its just too many for my comfort. #1 priority as soon as it warms just a bit, seal everything up!!

Boys best friend

Nope not a dog in our case. Ian is glued to his guitar. He loves to play anytime anywhere. He sleeps with it most nights, eats with it on his back, and sits by it when he is busy. The kid is in love.

Silly Sunday Snapshots!

I got bored, had the camera handy and got a little snap happy. 150 pictures later, I captured some of my favorite moments with the kiddos. Up next Ians ever moving hands at the guitar!

There is nothing more depressing...

than white paint. Sorry its just how I feel. There is something so lacking when a space is painted white. I think that is why I always hated apartment living. It feels so institutional, so sterile, so lacking. Blah.

I for one am a color kind of gal. I dont care if its just light cream. There must be color. Lots of it, usually paired with red in some way. Really you cant get too much red. Okay thats a lie but still it helps most rooms.

.
So what does any of this have to do with anything? I just painted my dining room white. Yes, there I said it. Its horrible that I had to stoop to such a level but it is true. And already the room is blah. Its more filled with light which was the ONLY reason I considered doing it but still its blah. Todays goal is to vamp it up a bit. Make it more exciting....somehow. I lack creativity when there is a lot of white involved. I dont know how other people do it. Wish me luck.

Top five fav blogs

Dallas tagged me to share my favorite blogs. Normally I dont do tagging but I read some good blogs so I will share.

Soule Mama- One of my all time favorites. Everything about Amandas blog calms me. Her pics are great, the view is awesome (she is Maine!) and her craftiness is inspiring. But what I love most about her is her out look on life. She is totally positive and thankful for everythin in her life. When I am feeling cranky I go hang out there to get a good dose of beauty and thankfulness.

Balancing Everything- This is another fav crafty blog. This mama owns a diaper fabric shop but her creativness goes far beyond diapers. She is hilarious when she gets on a roll and of course her pictures are incredible. Great for a laugh or a good idea.

Serious Moms- All about taking our role as a mother seriously. Lots of ideas, thoughts, and other tidbits. I havent been reading long but there have been some great ideas.

Pioneer Woman- Seriously one of the most entertaining blogs out there. I know I am not alone in this thinking either because she routinely has 10k comments left on posts. Her pics are incredible, her food is divine (you must try her pancakes...oh yummo!) and she is freakin' funny. Really really really funny. Read her its worth wasting a day ignoring your dishes.

The Knead for Bread- Okay if you know me you know I love bread. Really I havent met a bread yet that I dont like. Good stuff! My sister shared this blog with me last week and already I have at least 8 different loaves I want to try. Oh yummy yummy bread!

Late Winter

Ahhh late winter my least favorite time of year. I am always so antsy to get outside again and work in the garden that I dont fully appreciate the ending of the season. The weather hasnt helped either. Its been 40ish degrees a few times in the past week. Ahhh I love the smells of things starting to thaw. Its almost as good as the scents of Autumn....almost. ;) The seed catalogs have all arived and I am resisting looking at them. I have a lot of seeds left over from last year that I need to use up. However I am not one to pass by a new heirloom tomato variety. I did order some organic strawberry and tomato food since our soil here is so poor. I also ordered some red plastic mulch for the tomatoes. Its supposed to produce better yeilds and keep the plants healthier.
I am tempted to start my plants but I am holding out just a little longer. I warned Dean that its almost time to turn the kitchen into a greenhouse.
I am curious to see how the fruit trees faired this winter. I noticed that one was knocked over completely by the neighbors dogs. (SIGH) I doubt it made it. We will see though. I saw the irises under the front window starting to peak up. Seeing the bright green made me smile. Soon it will all be coming alive again.

A few weeks ago we ordered the kiddos instruments. Ian desperatly wants Dean to teach him to play the guitar and Caitlin has been begging to get back to the violin. Oh boy you should have heard the squealing that occured here today when the UPS man pulled in the driveway. They were so extatic you couldnt understand what they were saying as they were jumping up and down on the couch.

When Ian plays his tounge barely pokes out the corner of his mouth. It reminds me of my granpa every time I see him do this. Along with the instruments we recieved most of our order of school supplies for next year. I am excited to start reading and planning. You know me, I love nothing better than a plan.
